5 ways to boost your mental health naturally

Mental Health… is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you are going”- Noam Shpancer, PhD.

How is your mental health, is it the best it could be or that you want it to be?

Take a moment to really reflect on this question, what is your head and heart telling you. They are your internal guidance system after all.

Our mental health underpins our physical, emotional, and psychological health and if one is out of the balance, the rest too are also probably trying to compensate.

If you feel or want some improvements there are ways to help you gain clarity, sharpen your focus and do so without taking a bunch of chemicals. Want to know more, read on…

  1. Get some Vitamin D

Spending time outdoors has been proven to lift our moods and energise our physical bodies all the while enjoying glorious sunshine and nature. A natural relaxant and mood enhancer best enjoyed daily where possible.

  1. Nourish yourself!

How do you take care of your physical and emotional body? Do you choose nutritious foods to energise, fuel and care for you? A mix of colours, food groups, vitamins and nutrients can do wonders for your body and not just physically. Fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and nuts and seeds are great for your mental health. They provide nourishment that your brain needs to function at the top level.

Creating a delight for yourself engages all your senses which the brain processes as tasty, delightful, aromatic, all positive vibes! A natural high if you like. It also ensures you aren’t feeling sluggish, lethargic which are mood killers at their core and can leave you feeling de-motivated, uninspired and yuck.

Drink plenty of water/ liquid during the day to remain hydrated and alert. And think about nourishing your emotional self through loving self-care rituals and routines. Perhaps a relaxing bath, foot soak, massage, at home facial or relaxing on the lounge with a delicious cup of tea.

  1. Move everyday

Daily movement (whatever form that takes) has been proven to elevate mood, energise, help with a peaceful night’s sleep, and maintain greater focus on tasks.  So, whether its walking, running, yoga or Pilates, whatever movement you enjoy and will stick with, get out there and get your blood pumping, maybe even build up a sweat. Notice how good you feel afterwards! Those happy hormones will be in overdrive and leave you feeling fabulous, eliminating nervous energy that can often leave your mind turning and fidgety.

I bet you also have a great nights’ sleep afterwards.

4. Incorporate lox tox products.

Research shows that certain chemicals can be disruptive particularly to reproductive function. So, if you’re thinking about having a baby or already facing fertility challenges, removing toxins from your environment is an easy and effective way to support your success. It’s essentially a holistic approach to everyday life with a goal of achieving a healthy mind, body, and planet. It aims to eliminate the harmful chemicals that litter our everyday existence whilst promoting a sustainable and rewarding way to live. From skin care and cleaning products to cookware and bedding, no area is left untouched.

Starting to incorporate low tox products supports clear breathing and promote feelings of relaxation. Think of them cleaning and supporting your physical and mental wellbeing at the same time.

Ecolix carries a range of low-tox products for women, men, and the home to support your fertility, health and wellbeing.

  1. Avoid caffeine.

Caffeine can be the cause to many problems ranging from anxiety, insomnia, depression and adrenal fatigue. Too much caffeine can greatly affect the adrenal glands leaving people feeling overanxious or depressed. Avoiding caffeine ensures the adrenal glands can function the way they were intended, and without affecting sleep quality. Choosing to eliminate caffeine completely or having only one cup first thing in the morning ensures your sleep won’t be impacted and therefore your mind is clear and able to focus on the tasks at hand.

Herbal teas are a great replacement for caffeine with many health and wellness benefits. With so many varieties to sip away, you are spoilt for choice. All natural ingredients to sharpen your focus and, relax and ease you into a great nights’ sleep, as well as aid digestion and assist with immune support. Doesn’t get better than that!

The question is, what will you try first?
