Solo Date Nights – 5 tips to creating your own.

“How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you”.

What comes to mind when you think of the term ‘solo dates’ – does it leave you excited, scared, curious or put off? Is it something you would consider or is it an outright no!

How do you feel hearing the term? Where does it resonate in your body?

Did you know that solo dates can be a form of boosting your well-being, as well as gifting self-love and self-care to yourself whenever you like. Just imagine designing your own date with everything you love/ want/ desire in mind. Focusing solely on you, yes, I know in the beginning it may feeling a little (or a lot) uncomfortable) but imagine how amazing you will feel to invest your time, effort and energy into yourself for however long you desire.

And to do so repeatedly where you’ll discover you start prioritizing yourself more and more.

A few questions to consider:

Where do you go?

What do you do?

What will you wear?

How much time do you need/ want?

How often will you plan a solo date?

All for you to ruminate, dream, visualize, plan and then schedule in your calendar (YAY!). To help get you started, here’s my 10 top tips for solo dating:

  1. Take yourself out on a picnic.

This could be in your garden or out at a park/ beach somewhere close by. Consider packing your favourite foods and snacks, perhaps a glass of bubbly or two, plus a thermos of wellness tea for calm, relaxation and clarity of mind, body, and soul.

Do you have a lovely rug or blanket you can take to set up your environment, pack that book you have been meaning to read, a comfy pillow to sit on and perhaps some soft music to play in the background. Think about your crockery and cutlery to take with you, you want this to be a beautiful experience for your eyes, taste buds and heart after all.

  1. Be your own dinner date!

How exciting could this be! Whether you are dining at home or a nice restaurant, you get to decide!! Now I know eating out by yourself for the first time could be daunting, so perhaps start with a beautiful dinner at home. Think candles, music, table wear, your outfit and most importantly your desired meal.

How can you set up your environment to replicate one of your favourite places to eat?

How can you lay out your tableware?

What music would you like playing in the background?

How will you dress yourself, style your hair and do your makeup?

What foods will you prepare – a two or three course meal perhaps? Delight in it all and foster the excitement a dinner date brings to you.

This all matters in creating and enjoying a beautiful, loving space designed just for you.

  1. Enjoy an overnight getaway.

Do you enjoy travelling but find yourself sometimes with no one to go with at the same time as you? Consider solo travelling, perhaps starting with an overnight or short stay in a beautiful location that your heart desires. Consider how far do you want to travel?

What do you want to do / explore while you are there?

Where will you have dinner?

Savour the experience and do as much or as little as you want to, what’s most important is you. Now I know there might be some thoughts creeping in like “it costs too much”, “It’s a waste of money and time” or “I don’t really need it”. I invite you to consider how those thoughts feel in your body. And what message is those thoughts telling you – that you’re not worth it? You don’t deserve it? You don’t have the time?

I urge you to challenge those thoughts, and if they truly resonate with your heart’s desires. Now it doesn’t have to be a fancy 5* hotel, start with what and where works for you. Now if you want a 5*hotel go for it!

The point here is that if you want to go away, then do it! Whether you start small or go all out, do what your heart desires and enjoy every minute of it. Think of the stories you’ll have to share with family and friends afterwards.

  1. Spa Day

Do you enjoy some pampering, facials, massages, relaxing by the pool sipping a delicious and aromatic herbal wellness tea? Like the dinner date idea, a spa day can be done at home with products already in your bathroom cabinet or whisk yourself away for a day of pampering. Taking regular time out to lovingly care and nurture ourselves does amazing things to your mind, body & soul. What does this look like for you?

  1. Day of Adventure!

Now this one could literally be anything you want! Are you a sporty, daring, thrill seeker type? More of a wander around local markets and brunch person? Or anything in between.

I dare you to just go for it, not wait till anyone else is free to join you. You’ll be surprised just how much of a confidence boost this will give you.
